The TikTok Ban Is Almost Here

Talks grow about the ban of TikTok in the US

CRUNCH TIME – THE TIKTOK BAN IS ALMOST HERE

A month ago we touched on the ‘Stop Hate for Profit’ Facebook and Instagram boycott. Now, TikTok is in the firing line. On 7 August, President Trump issued an executive order banning TikTok from operating in the US, amid disputed accusations that TikTok was leaking data to the Chinese government. Trump wants TikTok operations to be sold to a US company in order to so-called protect the personal data of US citizens. The sale deadline is nearing, with tech giants Oracle, Microsoft and Walmart the leading contenders in what could be a deal worth US$20 billion – $30 billion.

If a deal cannot be made, the US would join India in banning TikTok. Meanwhile, Australia, Japan and the EU are also digging into TikTok’s management of user-data. Will the growing allies of the Trump administration in the Middle East consider following suit? We will keep you updated as things unfold.
